概要 This paper compares balanced-budget multipliers between an economy with endogenous consumption satiation and one with exogenous consumption satiation. A habit-forming consumer's commodity demand is endogenously satiated. If public services stimulate satiated consumption demand, the short-run multipliers on output and employment of government spending depend on intertemporal complementarities in preferences. The short-run multipliers are positively larger (smaller) than the long-run multipliers when preferences display distant (adjacent) complementarity. This result is a striking contrast with that derived by exogenous satiation, where the short-run multipliers are the same as the long-run multipliers.
