概要 | This presentation reports the results of a survey regarding the awareness of university students in teacher training courses, as part of research on educational methods and curriculum development regarding trans-science issues in school education.
This research analyzes the attitudes of university students using the case of "social distancing", which has caused a great deal of discussion in recent years among trans-science issues. This research consists of three steps. First, a pre-class survey was conducted. Considering that the survey would be conducted in class, students were informed in advance that the survey results would be used in conference presentations, papers, etc., and that responses would not be reflected in their grades. The survey was administered to students who consented to the survey. Next, the author gave a lecture on (1) an explanation of trans science issues and the concept of ELSI, and (2) social distancing as a trans-science issue. Finally, a post-class survey was conducted. In pre-class survey, the results show that there were 105 people for and 21 people against. The most common reasons for support are from an epidemiological perspective, such as “There is scientific evidence that it is effective as an infection control measure”. The reasons for the opposition also include epidemiological but main comments are other viewpoints: relationship with friends or economic aspects. In the post-class survey, 92 people were in favor and 34 people were against the idea. Both opinions changed to include multiple perspectives other than epidemiological ones, such as economics and psychological aspects, and some students changed their opinions (from agreeing to opposing) as they broadened their perspectives. |
