概要 This study examines whether Creating Shared Value (CSV), as proposed by Porter and Kramer in 2006, can serve as a sustainable business strategy. CSV encourages companies to address social issues through their core operations. The primary question is whether a company can achieve strong Corporate Social Performance (CSP) and Financial Performance (FP) over the long term. To investigate this, the study employs Granger causality analysis using panel data from 2014 to 2022. CSP is measured using ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) scores, while FP is assessed through financial ratios such as Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE). The study utilizes a panel VAR model to determine whether CSP and FP influence one another over time. The results reveal no strong evidence of a virtuous cycle between social performance and financial performance. In many instances, corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities appear to be short-lived and driven by external pressures like public opinion or investor demand, rather than by strategic intent. Few companies have successfully implemented CSV in a sustainable manner. The findings indicate that, although CSV holds conceptual promise, it is not yet widely practiced as a long-term management strategy. For CSV to become sustainable, companies need to align their social contributions more effectively with long-term financial goals.
